To succeed in the corporate world, it is crucial for you to master certain good working attitudes and habits.

1) PUNCTUALITY

Always be very puncture or even early for work as colleagues do notice what time you come in and the time you knock off. Don't ever let boss or colleagues criticize you for your punctuality. If you can't be on time, what other important esponsibilities can one entrust to you?

There is this thing called "Performance Appraisal" at the end of the year. Therfore, do not let anybody fault you on punctuality especially if you have subordinates to report to you. You have to set good example.

Occassionally, if you are late due to traffic jam or other unforseen circumstance, make it a point to inform your office about your situation.

2) WRITE DOWN THINGS YOU'VE LEARNT

When your are new, every day is a great learning opportunity and full of challenges. It will be good if you can summarize and take notes of the learning points about your job every day before you go to sleep. It is like writing a daily and this serves as a very good notes in future when you have to train new staff for your position when you move up the corporate ladder. People tend to take for granted once they are so familiar with the job.

I find that you can empathize with your new staff if you were in that position before. It certainly helps if you keep documented notes to refer to about the thing "new" to you then.

3) GET BACK TO YOUR BOSS ON TIME

I find that one thing new graduates always neglect is the fact that they do not make a conscious effort to report back to the boss timely about the progress on the job assigned.

I don't blame them because as a student you are brought up that way. You only passed-up your assignment when it is done and you tend to quietly do it till its completion. However, in the working world, you need to let your boss know the status.

This is especially true if the task is somewhat complicated. You need to communicate with your boss so that you know and he knows that whether or not you are on the right track.

4) PLANNING AND TIME MANAGEMENT

It is important for you to exercise proper planning and time management. There are so many things to do and the common complaint is "I have no time to do it."

How to overcome this problem?

Suggestion: Keep a notebook about things to be done and by when. Keep a big dairy so that you can record things to do on a particular day.

Always review your notebook and tick the item off as soon as you have completed it and remember to add on new task or item as soon as you receive it. You may also get your electronic dairy to keep track of your activities.

5) GOOD PRACTICE BEFORE YOU START THE DAY AND AT THE END OF THE DAY

In order to be highly organized, I recommend that before you leave your office each day, take ten minutes to note down important things to be carried forward the following day and jot it down in your notebook.

Similarly, once you step into the office in the morning, go through your dairy and the list of notes you have written the day before. Next, prioritize your activities and "task in" as the day progresses. You will find that you can accomplish much more once you get yourself very organized.
