CAREER PLANNING Before you embark on getting your first job, it is absolutely necessary that you do a self analysis to examine what type of jobs your wish to get into. It would really painful if you have selected a particular field and only later to find out that you actually do not have the interest or aptitude to continue long term in it. It is therefore wise to do some homework first to determine your preference. Now, in the working world, you no longer just compete with your same batch of fellow students like what you did in your school days. You are in fact in competition with the whole working population regardless of your age. Your employer has a choice of getting someone perhaps costing him slight more and with more years of experience. Or, he can choose some new entrants to the market and train up the person. Please ask yourselves the following before going for your job hunt. 1. What is your job preference? 2. What type of companies will appeal to you? 3. What are training are necessary in order for you to gain entry into your selected field? There are many tools in the market to assist you to analyze your profile and suitability for particular jobs. It would be money well spent to find out for yourself. A word of caution though: the test at best is a useful guide and it should not be viewed as something cast in concrete and you cannot change forever. Of course, you can change to adapt to a particular job environment and requirement and overtime be excellent in your area of work. Human being is flexible animal and we certainly can change to suit the environment.
